The Digital & Annual Giving Officer will serve a key role on the Development and Outreach team at Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS). The individual will be responsible for developing fundraising and engagement strategies for application across our digital and email channels, advertising platforms, and direct mail campaigns.

This individual must be comfortable and confident in dealing with all levels of LIRS leadership, staff, and volunteers, as well as management of third-party vendors to develop inspiring, results-driven campaigns. This includes oversight of creative briefs, content copywriting and editing engagement plan development, and deadline adherence

The Digital & Annual Giving Officer will be responsible for helping LIRS to transform its digital and mail fundraising practices and leading the strategic direction of our donation pages, fundraising-related website features, and SMS solicitations. Further, the Digital & Annual Giving Officer will focus on helping the organization meet its annual revenue goals - acquiring, retaining, recapturing, and upgrading all LIRS' current, lapsed, and monthly donors.

Some travel and some evening and weekend work may be required.

  • Oversee all annual giving strategies and initiatives for the organization.
  • Collaborate and actively participate with the Development and Outreach Team in developing overall fundraising strategies for key audiences (Monthly Giving, Single-Gift, Mid-Level Giving, Planned Giving, etc.,) mitigating challenges, taking on larger marketing projects (such as Market Research, Client Stories, etc.), and ensuring donor-first mindset.
  • Reinforce and invigorate LIRS' approach to donor engagement, working closely with colleagues across the organization to ensure a donor-first strategic approach; launch stimulating and emotionally-focused campaigns, and creatively drive donor conversion and engagement.
  • Develop strategies that increase the effectiveness of direct mail and online fundraising.
  • Launch new digital engagement strategies for donors and constituents.
  • Create online donation pages and SMS campaigns; oversee peer-to-peer giving platform.
  • Partake in donor stewardship through implementing stewardship strategies and conducting donor thank-you calls/cards/emails, etc.
  • Ensure that outsourced agencies have all the training materials, promotional items, and technology integrations necessary to maintain effective fundraising operations.
  • Negotiate, review, and approve future contracts with partner vendors/creative agencies.
  • Working closely with program and communication colleagues, gathering impact stories to be used in appeals, solicitations, annual reports, etc.
  • Create a test and learn culture; seek out and implement new acquisition strategies, especially digital advertising, lead generation, and direct-to-donate.
  • Foster a collaborative environment of growth and ongoing learning; maintain high standards for technical quality and overall performance.
  • Report regularly on analysis and impact of digital and mail fundraising tactics to the Vice President for Development and Outreach and organization at large; consistently monitor and analyze related data to guide both strategy and implementation of future efforts.
  • Other projects as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 2-4 years working with annual funds and digital fundraising, preferred.
  • Ability to lead or manage complex projects/campaigns from concept to execution.
  • A proven track record of increasing revenue through digital channels, especially digital advertising and e-appeals.
  • Experience with donor CRM databases; experience with Salesforce is highly preferred.
  • Ability to create budget and revenue projections.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and strong team-building skills; steward of exemplary customer service.
  • Background in direct marketing, sustainer analytics, search engine optimization (SEO)
  • A strong working knowledge of current fundraising industry practices; understanding of digital platforms and their essential function in fundraising.
