Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Loan Collection and Credit Operations will oversee the LIRS travel loans unit and other credit and loans products/services ensuring timely collections and accurate accounting of all loans, providing stellar customer service to loan clients and partners, and analysis that provides insights into beneficial ways to support the clients and maximize returns for LIRS.

  • Manage the loans unit to ensure the right resources are available to meet the needs of the clients. Provide leadership and oversight to staff, including defining job duties, setting performance development plans and goals.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with affiliates and loan clients to understand and support their needs. Identify new ways to improve the experience for loan clients and affiliates.
  • Increase the loans unit's financial contribution to LIRS in ways consistent with the LIRS values by ensuring that the staff respond to clients' inquiries and manage address changes so that LIRS reaches as many clients as possible.
  • Review and analyze monthly results to ensure the systems are functioning as designed, identify trends, and forecast reliable future results.
  • Represent LIRS in partner relationships with the International Organization for Migration "IOM", affiliates, and external loan-related agencies, vendors to enhance the power of the relationship and resolve issues.
  • Develop new approaches to loan-related communications that enhance the loan clients' understanding and commitment to responsible loan payments. Develop credit training that is accessible and useful to loan clients and affiliates. Determine the most effective vehicles for delivering the training and implementation. Evaluate the effectiveness of the communication/training efforts and change as the outcomes indicate.
  • Assess every process of the loans unit, ensuring that policies and procedures are documented and optimal.
  • Develop training programs and sessions for clients to enhance their understanding of the importance of maintaining good credit and financial discipline.
  • Collaborate and coordinate launching, packaging, and implementation of existing and new personal credit /loan products and services.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, business administration, or finance or equivalent.
  • Five years of loans collections and credit management experience required.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills that leverage and link all resources available through LIRS, with evidence of good judgment and attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Knowledge of Fair Credit Reporting Act and Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act required.
  • Highly proficient in using Microsoft Office applications and loans systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for improvement, and skills to test concepts and prove the effectiveness of results with financial analysis.
  • Supervisory experience required, with demonstrated ability to coach, provide conflict resolutions and motivation.
  • Proven track record of maximizing collections following the highest ethical standards and strict adherence to legal requirements and limitations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage collaborative partnerships across various systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing training and technical assistance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact well with all levels of various systems.
  • Experience with and commitment to working in a very diverse workforce.
  • Creativity to try new ideas and initiative to execute projects with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to LIRS's core mission and values and an ability to model those values in relationship with colleagues and partners; commitment to empowering refugees and migrants
  • Fluent in Swahili, Arabic/Pashtun ideal but not required.
