Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for completing reconciliation of certain general ledger accounts, recording of transactions, financial reporting for a new wholly owned subsidiary of LIRS. The ideal candidate will express a strong interest in full cycle accounting, implementing, and defining controls and processes around new and existing systems used to record the financial activities of the organization. Ideally, this person would have strong analytical and organizational skills and an eye for detail.


  • Lead the monthly financial close for the wholly owned subsidiary
  • Lead recording of activity of a new wholly owned subsidiary; prepare, review activity of the subsidiary; prepare consolidation entries
  • Assist in preparation of monthly LIRS financial reports, including consolidation
  • Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording and verifying the transactions.
  • Collaborate with the accounting manager and controller with specific special projects and resolving accounting issues.
  • Working with the accounting, grants, development and IT teams lead new projects to implement new software, procedures, and processes around recording and reporting of financial activity
  • Educate and train other accounting staff in their day-to-day functions to improve accounting knowledge, efficiency and accuracy of financial information and processes. This includes troubleshooting and application of and basic accounting principles.
  • Cross train with Grant's staff for federal program financial management functions and affiliate reimbursements.
  • Perform reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and careful monitoring of accounts receivable
  • Create reports as requested for other departments
  • Assist with annual audit and IRS Form 990 preparation
  • Support other finance related processes, including process improvement and document retention management.
  • Prepare non-recurring complex journal entries and adjustments after conducting an analytical review of accounts and transactions.
  • Assist in preparing periodic Board reports for Controller's review.
  • Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and cost management
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or similar field with six years of accounting experience or equivalent work experience and education.
  • Experience working in a larger non-profit organization is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in public accounting is also highly desirable
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to identify critical priorities and take initiative to respond in a flexible way to changing needs is crucial to success in this role
  • Federal and Private Grants accounting experience/knowledge is preferred.
  • MIP accounting software, SAP Concur, and/or SAP Invoice experience is preferred.
  • Superior mathematical, analytical, and technical skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated to remain current on a day-to-day basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently in a hybrid work environment; proficiency and comfort working in a paperless environment
  • Highly proficient in using general ledger software and MS Office apps especially excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with and commitment to working in a very diverse workforce.
